CARNAVAL PUNTA CANA

Punta Cana Carnaval in Dominican Republic

History

The Punta Cana Carnival is the most anticipated festival of art and culture in the Eastern region of the Dominican Republic.

Experience the Carnaval Puntacana. A free-access celebration for the whole family, where you can enjoy spectacular national and international parades. And when the sun sets, the party continues with music, shows, draft beers, gastronomy, DJs, all within the framework of our Zero Waste ecosystem.

As is tradition, the King of the Carnival, popularly called “Rey Momo”, inaugurates the parade, which it’s the most anticipated surprise on the day of the festival. This distinction is given to prominent and influential national personalities who inspire Dominican society with their work. An example is Oscar de la Renta, designer and icon of international fashion and the first King Momo of the Punta Cana Carnival.

Likewise, Freddy Beras Goico, outstanding communicator, producer, and comedian, crowned King Momo in 2009.

Every year, the Punta Cana Carnival is celebrated at Boulevard 1ro. November, located in Puntacana Village, with the best representation of the national and international groups, integrated by more than 1,500 people. The event is well known for its excellent organization and security, creating an unforgettable family gathering and integration for the entire community, which brings together around 20,000 people.

The Carnival would not be the same without its emblematic “Musas de Punta Cana”, a group initiated by women of the community, whom design their unique costumes, drawing inspiration from the native fauna and alluding to elements such as the sun, the sea, and nature, which offer a touch of fantasy to their creations. The group started with only five members and, today, there are more than 25 women. They are accompanied by the “Tres Caras”, the protectors of the Muses, and the group of students from the Puntacana International School.

The music is not far behind. Artists are invited to give concerts with the beat of Caribbean instruments, being one of the most desired parts of the Gala Night and the grand closing of the parade.

The Punta Cana Carnival is joy, color, and tradition, representing the best of the Punta Cana destination.

As part of our Puntacana ecosystem, this year we will be implementing the ZERO WASTE initiative in our events, starting with our carnival. We will have 50 recycling stations throughout the parade route for the separation of Organic – plastic/metal waste – in food truck areas and entrances to stages, including the use of reusable and biodegradable disposable cups.

We aim to reduce the amount of waste and the impact of residues on our environment. Help us achieve this!
