Corales Puntacana Championship PGA TOUR has begun: The most important golf tournament of the year in the Dominican Republic

The event has positioned the Dominican Republic on the world’s professional golf map and Punta Cana as a leading golf destination in the Caribbean.

Punta Cana, La Altagracia – The fifth edition of the Corales Puntacana Championship PGA TOUR officially kicked off at the Corales golf course, taking place from March 21-27, 2022, with an increase in its purse of $3.7 million dollars, the highest ever seen in the history of the sport Dominican, and valid for 300 FedExCup points.

120 players from the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America will be competing for the title of "King of Corals", facing past tournament champions Joel Dahmen (2021), Graeme McDowell (2019), Brice Garnett (2018); as well as Nate Lashley and Dominic Bozzelli, winners of the Korn Ferry Tour in 2017 and 2016. Dominican players Hiram Silfa, Juan José Guerra, Willy Pumarol and Manuel Relancio will also be competing.

Additionally, tournament veterans Rafa Cabrera Bello, Andrew Novack, Emiliano Grillo, Bill Haas, Kelly Kraft, Rick Lamb, Parker McLachlin, Rasmus Hojgaard, Stephen Jaeger, among others, will also be participating.

This is the most important sporting event of the year, which has positioned the Dominican Republic on the world’s professional golf map and Punta Cana as a leading golf destination in the Caribbean.” Said Frank Elias Rainieri, president and CEO of Grupo Puntacana at the inaugural press conference of the event, held at the Corales Golf Course Clubhouse.

Likewise, defending champion Joel Dahmen said "It is a pleasure to be back for the second time in the Dominican Republic and a privilege to return to defend my title."

Live broadcast

The event will be broadcasted live on the renowned television network Golf Channel on Thursday, March 24, and Friday, March 25, from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM - 1:30 PM. Locally CDN Deportes will broadcast it live from the Corales Golf Course on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 March from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM, capturing incidents from the event, and on Sunday, March 27, the award ceremony at 5:30 PM.

Activities and Entertainment

Those who wish to attend as spectators can purchase Day Pass and Tickets for all days of the tournament at the Visitor Center from Thursday to Sunday and at the Will Call from Wednesday, March 23. Tickets offer access to the event and the 19th hole, where there will be a variety of food trucks, recreation area, skybox facing the sea, general parking area, and live music.

Impact of the 2021 tournament

Last year the tournament went down in history as the first PGA TOUR event to be held twice in the same season in more than 70 years, achieving 4.8 billion national and international print and digital media impressions in 153 countries, reaching 3.4 million viewers in the United States and 2 million listeners locally.

About the Corales golf course

Corales Puntacana Resort & Club, is home to the first and only PGA TOUR Event in the Dominican Republic, designed by world-renowned architect Tom Fazio. Opened in 2010, it is located next to the cliffs, bays, natural ocean inlets, inland lakes, and coral quarries of the Caribbean Sea. It has 18 holes, with six of them facing the sea, culminating with its last three holes known as the "Devil's Elbow", which is positioned among the most spectacular and difficult final holes in the world.
