Punta Cana, La Altagracia. - With an award purse of $3 million dollars, the highest in the history of any sport in the Dominican Republic, valid for 300 FedExCup points and the participation of 132 players from 20 countries and 5 continents, Puntacana Resort & Club announces the 4th edition of the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship PGA TOUR Event 2021, to be held at Corales golf course, from March 22th - 28th.
With the event, the Dominican Republic and Punta Cana are promoted worldwide as the leading golf tourism destination in the Caribbean, reaching 1 billion television viewers in 200 countries and more than 5.5 million impressions in digital media worldwide. The tournament will feature the participation of five Dominican players, who are currently participating for their classification in the Canita Tour, which will conclude the first week of March.
The access to the event will be only by invitation and exclusive for Puntacana Resort & Club homeowners, main sponsors and special partners, following the health and safety protocols implemented at the resort and guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Tourism and the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES), in order to prevent Covid-19.
On Wednesday, March 24th, will be celebrated the PRO-AM, a traditional gather between local amateur players and professional golfers from the PGA TOUR, with the confirmation of 120 players, divided into groups of 3 and distributed in 2 waves of 60, who also must present a negative PCR test result or antigen test the day before the event.
As of Thursday, March 25th until Sunday, March 28th guest access to the event will be permitted including the Award Ceremony which will be held at the 18th hole of Corales golf course, Puntacana Resort & Club. The 4th edition of Corales Championship Puntacana Resort & Club PGA TOUR Event 2021 will have bleachers at the 17th hole, food trucks area open at 10:00 AM, and free skybox access for guests in the 18th hole. This year, guests will be able to follow the game thru the path for an "Outside-the-Rope" experience at holes 1, 8, 9, 16, 17 and 18.
The event will be broadcast on Golf Channel on Thursday, March 25th and Friday, March 26th, from 10:00 AM -1:00 PM (EST); on Saturday, March 27th, from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM (EST); and on Sunday, March 28th, from 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM (EST). Locally, the sports channel CDN Deportes, also media partner of the event, will be broadcasting during the tournament from Corales golf course, and on Sunday, March 28th, will be broadcasting live the award ceremony at 5:30 PM, estimated local time.
Following preventive measures, the event will not have social activities. However, spectators will be able to enjoy digital content through social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, with a schedule of activities, information and entertainment.
The event protocol includes taking the temperature screening at all entry points, the mandatory use of facemask at all times by volunteers, staff and guests, frequent deep cleaning in all areas and disinfectant gel stations, among other hygiene and safety measures. In addition, in order to reinforce physical distancing, all staff and will be organize by "bubbles".
Like the September 2020 edition, players and caddies must present a negative PCR test result or antigen test the day prior to their arrival, as part of the protocols established by the PGA TOUR organization.
PGA TOUR remains in constant communication with local health authorities in each market where PGA TOUR tournaments are resumed, and closely monitors the information provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United States Department of State regarding the evolution of Covid-19.
Corales Championship PGA TOUR 2020

About the Corales golf course
Corales Puntacana Resort & Club, home to the first and only PGA TOUR Event in the Dominican Republic, was designed by world famous architect Tom Fazio. Opened in 2010, it is located next to the cliffs, bays, natural ocean inlets, inland lakes and coral quarries of the Caribbean Sea.
