Hotels at Puntacana Resort Receive International Green Key Recognition for Their Sustainable Management

The award recognizes tourism projects committed to implementing sustainable practices and reducing their environmental impact.
Punta Cana, La Altagracia – Three hotels at Puntacana Resort have been awarded the international Green Key certification for the 2025–2026 period, one of the world’s leading eco-labels in sustainable tourism. The recognized properties are Tortuga Bay Puntacana, The Westin Puntacana Resort, and Four Points by Sheraton Puntacana Village.
The recognition was granted following an evaluation process that verified compliance with rigorous environmental standards. As a result, Four Points by Sheraton Puntacana Village achieved a score of 92.95%, The Westin Puntacana Resort reached 91.05%, and Tortuga Bay Puntacana was approved with a score of 90.85%, also earning the International Green Key Distinction.
This achievement is also made possible thanks to the integrated sustainability efforts led by the Puntacana Foundation, the nonprofit organization of Grupo Puntacana that promotes initiatives focused on community well-being and environmental preservation.
The Foundation develops programs in areas such as environmental conservation, coral reef restoration, waste management, education, and ecotourism, directly contributing to strengthening the sustainability standards that distinguish Puntacana Resort hotels under internationally recognized certifications such as Green Key.
Green Key is an international program operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). In the Dominican Republic, it is coordinated by the Environmental Law Institute of the Dominican Republic (IDARD), recognizing tourism establishments committed to implementing sustainable practices and reducing their environmental impact. The certification is currently present in more than 70 countries and thousands of tourism establishments worldwide.
Among the criteria evaluated are efficient water and energy management, responsible waste reduction and handling, proper use of chemicals, protection of natural resources, and the implementation of environmental best practices in hotel operations, including food and beverage.
Additionally, the program promotes environmental education among staff, guests, and local communities, fostering greater awareness of sustainable development within the tourism industry. This approach ensures that hotel operations not only reduce their environmental footprint but also generate a positive impact on organizational culture and the overall guest experience.
With these certifications, Puntacana Resort hotels continue to strengthen their commitment to a responsible and sustainable tourism model, aligned with environmental protection and the promotion of best practices in the hospitality sector. These initiatives are part of a broader vision aimed at preserving the region’s natural resources while advancing a tourism model that combines quality, innovation, and environmental responsibility.
